I am just like you.
For years I and my family did everything “right.” We made sure to eat our fruits and veggies, we were careful with processed, packaged foods, and we emphasized quality wherever we could - unsalted butter, organic vegetables, and sustainably produced meat. We even raised our own eggs and made sure to provide our “girls” the very best organic poultry food money could buy! None of that, however, made us any healthier. We lived according to the advice and best practices that experts recommended, but that advice didn’t lower our cholesterol, didn’t improve our blood pressure, and didn’t help anyone lose weight.
Also, like many people out there, I am not a “diet” person! Flashy new plans promising spectacular results came and went with the seasons, but just like commonly shared nutrition advice, nothing seemed to help my family or myself achieve our personal goals. Flash forward to 2014, when my oldest was just starting grad school, we had just moved to a new state, and I knew something had to change.
On the recommendation of a friend I watched the documentary “Forks Over Knives,” and almost immediately I felt drawn to the both simplicity and possibility of transforming my health through my food. Even though I “argued” with the details for a little while, no one could dispute the science, and discovering plant-based nutrition felt like coming home. Over the next couple of years I read everything I could get my hands on from the leading doctors and practitioners, ultimately reaching the conclusion that whole foods, plant-based nutrition was the right choice. A local physician in our new town was also an advocate of plant-based living, and once our paths crossed, he encouraged me to pursue certification. At his urging I applied to the Food for Life Program created by Dr. Neal Barnard and the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) in Washington D.C., was accepted, and after a whirlwind journey though the certification, returned to my community ready to help others discover the life-changing promises my family and I could now claim.
My passion is helping others equip themselves for success. Knowledge is power, and learning just how much of an impact we can have on our own health through the food that we eat is a game changer! By eating this way, we have lost over two hundred pounds as a family. We have eliminated cystic acne, lowered triglycerides, lowered blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, and reversed Type-2 Diabetes. Wow!
With results like these, you can see why I’m so passionate! If you or someone you know is interested or even just a little bit curious about what plant-based nutrition can do, please reach out! Bringing hope to folks through nutrition is what I live for, and I would love to help you too.
